Entry #3: How fast can we learn

Hello there, today I am writing about the new faster courses that ASU is offering to its students. I have read about it on this article from the Arizona Republic. http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/2011/02/22/20110222arizona-state-university-shorter-classes.html?nclick_check=1 Now, personally I am the type of girl who like school the traditional way. I like to be able to do my work in a timely fashion and I like to understand what I am learning before I just move on to the new topic. I am the type of learner that need visual aid and extra help if I need it. I do understand though, that other people learn in all kinds of ways. Everyone is diverse and we all take things in different context, so I can see as to why people would like to have class this way. I would not take these classes personally, but I do think it is very creative for ASU to think for this. Although, I do think that they have to consider which classes they are offering in these protocols, because as I was reading the comments people are becoming frustrated with the fact that engineering classes are offered like this. I would have to agree with that because engineering is a difficult major, and to condense even more is probably very challenging for the students. ASU has to take into account how well these students are really doing in these situations. If they are doing poorly, then what is the point of offering these classes compared to the traditional type if no one is doing well in them. ASU to me is a very good school, but to others is has a lot to be desired, so that plus the fact that students would get less time to learn can cause employers to take a deep look in to hiring a ASU grad. I think if you can learn in this environment then you should take these classes if you think they fit your needs, if not then don't. We are all students, adults, people of the real world we can make our own decisions. ASU is not telling us we have to take these classes, they are giving us the option and it is our own choice if we take it. They are considering the students life outside of school when they thought of this. Many people have full time jobs, families, kids to raise and bills to pay. These classes give us the chance to spend less time in the class room and more time taking care of the things that we need to handle. I am an ASU girl so I am glad that they are thinking of new and inventive to get students to the school. So that's all, Peace, Love, and Happiness.

  1. I agree with you about wanting to keep the traditional length of the semester, if we shorten the semester we wont be able to learn effectively.
