Entry #5 Media Snythesize: Media and how I perceive it.
Considering that i never really thought of media as such a powerful thing until we began talking about it in my English class, I now notice so many things in the media that I have never noticed before. Media is so powerful that it make make you hungry when you just ate. It can make you want to buy a product just to be able to sleep better when you already sleep perfectly, or as a female it can make you laugh at how some companies portray how well tampons will hold when you are doing crazy things like flips and stuff. Not only do I find that media is annoying but also funny I find that we pay so much attention to it that we don't even notice. We do not realize that the tevelvison shows that we watch are apart of the media. We don't see that our fashion comes from the types of shows that we watch. We are so close to media that we fail to see it as something that can potentially be threatening to us. In my life all I see are the tv commercials, that either make me really hungry or really happy, or even truly sad. I find myself getting sucked into tricks on the screen that make me so hungry I don't even understand how they can possibly do that from a screen. I notived that in my family the media makes people try to be perfect. My little cousin has to always look amazing, she has to look like the girls on the screen, just as skinny as them and have the same style as them. I want so much for her to be her own person but she doesn't understand that her life revolves around being as perfect as the media wants her to be. The media has also worked some good in my family. Though the shows such as diners, dive-ins and dives and man vs. food is suppose to get people to go to these places, it has made my family really think about how we eat and how much we eat, and how food shouldn't be the driving factor in our life to go out of state. We began eating healthy and taking meat out of our diet and we are learning that food isn't as important as we or the media make it to be. The media shouldn't be as powerful as we make it. We should be making the media what it is. We should have what is going to be good for us and our kids and the community in the media. We need to create a world were we are less interested in the media and what they have to say and more concerned with our life and families and living a better life. Peace, love and happiness bloggers. :)

I love this post so much! It has become apparent to all of us, I think and now that we all truly think about it, we see it more clearly! Society portrays one thing and people follow, strange how it works.
ReplyDeleteI also think that is awesome that your family chose to cut meat out of your diet! I, too, have decided to go meat-free after seeing some of the videos on animal cruelty and factory farming. You've made an honest choice and soon, you become a role model to many others.
